Brief Description:  Repairman Certificate in hand

Went to the Boston area FSDO with my repairman certificate application, aircraft documents, private pilot license, aircraft plans, 3-ring binder with all my A/C related papers, and my notebook computer with my build log entries.

The inspector reviewed the computer build log and was impressed with the good quality information found there to document that I had built the plane. He asked a few general questions about the build method, match drilled construction method, type of rivets, etc. I think he was more interested in the kit and the airplane than testing my knowledge of the constuction, although it would be a good technique to assess the builders knowledge.

We reviewed some of the various FAR documents available to determine the minimum requirements for a conditional inspection and encouraged adding anything additional I felt important and applicable to my aircraft.

I think if I had used and FAA rep for the airworthiness inspection, they would determine builder qualifications on site during the inspection and it would just be a matter of completing the application at the FSDO.

This completes all the formal FAA paperwork for the aircraft. From now it's all logbook and annual conditional inspection entries.

I had filled in my application before hand, and all was correct, except he suggested I use the same name as on my pilot license (which is first, last & middle) and not just the middel initial as on my airworthiness and registration. He said that is because the FAA files all relavent pilot information and certificates under the same name in one file. Maybe I should have used that full name with the registration and airworthiness applications. I'll know if there is a problem within 120 days when I should get the regular repairman certificate to replace the temporary I was given.
